2015: Cacoete

"Visado" - Solo Show - Rua do Sol 172

The subject matter that I weave throughout this exhibition is centered on looking at the world from a perspective that, while being analytical and distanced, seeks poetry in the ordinary. By entitling this exhibition Visado (Targeted), I hoped to introduce the feeling of having a screen between the viewer and the world which offers the audience an artist's-eye-view. This screen is grided like the eyes of an insect, which allows us to see uv rays, colours the human eye cannot.

On the basement I have presented an Installation I developed after a video I shot in Porto of a butterfly found trapped in a glass bottle. This butterfly must have, while still a caterpillar, crawled out of my compost bin into the glass recycling bin, and only noticed while I was cooking and see something moving inside a bottle. The installation presents a projection of the butterfly inside the bottle where I play with the point of focus as to show both the cocoon and the insect alive. On a small tv it is possible to see a loop of the butterfly bumping inside the bottle. On the floor I present similar bottles of wine, aligned in a grid, and a sounds of me blowing air onto a bottle weaves the installation togethe.
